Unmonitored, alternating clomid IUI cycles saves us at least $500 per cycle. Because we got lucky, sort of, on our first clomid IUI, everyone thought a couple more tries of 50 mg clomid, ovulation predictor kits and insemination every other cycle for up to four cycles was well worth the savings.
However.
I've posted about IUI #2. No such luck. I called the nurse to ask how we can better time the next IUI, given multiple positive opk results over a number of days that makes timing insemination within a 24 hour conception window like a shot in the dark. I don't need to tell you her answer. Yes,
M O N I T O R I N G
with or without an hcg trigger
genius.
We did not do a 7dpo progesterone blood draw for IUI #2, unfortunately. If we had, we might know more about the gusto, or lack thereof, ovulation and hence, if my response to 50 mg of clomid is in decline. Dr. A wants to continue with 50 mg of clomid until we know more about my response. Don't you appreciate their cautious approach to ovarian stimulation? I do. sort of.
In addition to my analogy to Economy Class Travel, I would like to add, slow lane, the scenic route, the long way home.... I did say I was feeling impatient.

I completely know that feeling. Everything in you just wants to go all the way and do full blown treatments, but the easier steps actually DO work sometimes, and they are worth a try. We started with IUI's even though the RE said they most likely wouldn't work for us due to my endo. Still, it was worth a shot! It's better to go slow and know.
Yes, definately try another IUI. I'm hoping this round works for you!
The slow lane blows, doesn't it?
I'm glad you're moving forward with monitoring - I think it will be well worth it!
Yeah, it is tough. But, the savings seem worth it and it does seem like your doctor has a good plan. I hope you figure out a plan that makes the most sense for you!!
It is certainly a learning process, and I think it's common that cycles and chances to try take longer that you plan or think they will. All I can say is follow your heart and do what feels best -- but also remember your goal is to get out of the doc's office and onto the playground... for me, 10 yrs of treatment, I wish I would have been MORE aggressive with treatments in the beginning. But who knew it would be so hard for me? Not so for many, many people who have success very quickly. Wishing you the best.
The slow lane blows! I hope it works!
i hate the slow lane when you are feeling like driving in the fast lane. its like being in the left hand lane and a slow driver just sitting there in front of you. ugh!!! hoping another monitored clomid cycle is all it takes. hugs!
I'm so sorry that things are not going well. Know that you aren't alone and that there are many many people cheering you on.
