I mean, my belly is not growing and the checkout cashier at the drugstore is getting confused, because, it's been over a year. Do I really need to subject myself to this humiliation? I am already recognized as that poor woman who has been buying pregnancy and ovulation tests at the dollar store for over a year. I live in a very small town, one where the high school teachers drive to the next town to buy condoms (you are probably wondering why I don't buy online. I'm wondering this myself as I write this and plan to do buy online from now on as soon as I return to Oregon).
But seriously, I've been off and on prenatal vitamins for awhile, recently off, because buying them was too much to deal with. I became discouraged (and I didn't even want to look at those pre-natal bottles). But now I am wondering about Vitamin A. I am wondering this because I just started taking cod liver oil--the liquid (Carlson's with lemon), with only 850 IU of A, but add this to my multi-vitamin with 5, 000 IU (and I ate sweet potatoes and carrots tonight with dinner) and maybe that's too much Vitamin A for an Infertile.
So should I switch back to pre-natals? What do you take? Any suggestions for a good brand?

Stopping by from ICLW. I finally gave up the prenatals. It was getting ridiculous, but then again we stopped treatments after the last failure. So it really became kind of moot.
I hear you on the silence. We have only told a few people and even that was too many for me.
Best wishes and take care.
Ha!! This is so funny. I think that my pre-natal mocks me most mornings. I take a CVS brand generic prenantal, I figure when I am finally pregnant, I will switch to something better. Mail order all the way.
I actually enjoy my prenatals. I take "Super Nutrition One a Day" organic prenatal vitamins. They actually make me feel healthier just looking at them.
I don't take them from the bottle though, I have a pill case that I take them from in the evening.
I hope you find something that works for you.
Been on prenatals on and off for a decade... so I feel your pain. I am currently doing the One a day that also includes a DHA supplement. Good Luck!
Hilarious! I bought my first prenatals two years ago. It was a buy one get one free deal at Safeway on their generic brand. I remember thinking I'd just throw away the unused because obviously I wouldn't need 180 x 2 pills. Hmm...I've bought the buy one get one deal yet again and am done with the first bottle. You do the math. But, I have really pretty hair and strong nails.
Infertility unexplained, I'd keep taking them...if nothing else for the aesthetic wonders they produce :)
I've been taking them for about 18 months now. Ridiculous. BUT, if anything happened to my unborn child b/c I didn't have all of the nutrients built up in my system that he/she needed early on for development, I'd never forgive myself.
That being said, I drank a frickin bottle of wine last night. So maybe it's just a wash?
You need a vitamin of some sort anyway and while you may not think prenatals are necessary when you're on a break, you should replace them with something. I've been taking prenatals for about 4 years now or more. It's part of my routine and I probably won't stop.
I have a friend who is done having kids and has been for 3 years but still takes prenatals.
Just a thought...

I vote that you keep taking them. But I hear you on the drugstore thing. I just bought some last night, and in my head, I was chanting, "don't ask, don't ask, don't ask" at the register. A few months ago, I actually had someone ask when I was due, even though it was way too early to show. Luckily at that moment I actually was pregnant... But now that I'm no longer pregnant, I'm petrified that someone will ask. Online shopping - that's the way to go!
I hear you. It's depressing to be on my third mega-bottle and not even have been taking them consistently for the entire 3 1/2 years since I started. Blah. BUT my hair and nails have been growing better in that time so I guess it's not a total waste. :) I use the target brand which was recommended to me by my doctor back in the day.
I've hated taking prenatal vitamins for the last four years with nothing to show for it. Last week I got a BFN on IVF #1 and just haven't been able to choke down those prenatal vitamins since.
I really liked your post on keeping silent about your infertility. I'm very much the same. Maybe we'd find a little support if we were 'out' about our fertility problems, but we'd also get a lot of stupid comments and maybe even hostility about our treatment choices, so for me it just doesn't seem worth it to be open about it.
Hi and Happy ICLW! I've been taking Rainbow Light prenatals and DHA for a while and have been pretty happy with them. Hope you find the right stuff for you.
Take care,
